Receipts This Week: 3,236 Last Week: 3,393 Year ago: 4,438 Compared to last week, steer calves sold steady to 4.00 higher; steers under 500 lbs sold mostly 2.00 to 4.00 higher and 5 wgts were mostly steady. Heifer calves sold steady to 7.00 higher; same as the steers, heifers under 500 lbs sold 5.00 to 7.00 higher and 5 wgts were steady to 2.00 higher. Yearling steers sold steady to 4.00 higher; early week sales were light but mainly steady. Late week sales sold up to 4.00 higher than comparable one week ago sales. Yearling heifers sold steady on a light test. Slaughter cows sold steady. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Demand for lightweight calves was as good as has been seen for most of the spring. Lightweight heifer calves were especially hotly contested at the beginning of the week. Demand for the few pot loads of yearling steers was good with the best demand being for 9 wgts or near 9 wgts. These 9 wgt yearlings, even with the summer slowdown in weight gain, should finish sometime in October. Although inputs continue to rise with crude oil climbing to yet another record high, the live cattle futures contracts from October and beyond look more promising than in sometime selling well above the century mark. The supply included 15% slaughter cows, 2% slaughter bulls, 1% replacement cows, 2% cow/calf pairs and 80% feeder cattle. The feeder supply included 45% steers, 18% bulls, 37% heifers. Steers and heifers over 600 lbs totaled 38.6% of feeder cattle.
