Slaughter rates improved some from last week but still lighter than a year ago. Boxed beef prices weakened, but on increased movement of loads. Boxed Beef prices averaged 135.58 down .22 from last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is now at 6.93. Slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday morning totaled 129,181 head. Last week's movement totaled 124,654 head. Midwest Direct Markets: Live Basis: Steers and Heifers 35-80 Percent Choice, 1200-1400 lbs: 80.00-84.00 Dressed Basis: Steers and Heifers: 130.00 High Plains Direct Markets: Live Basis: Steers and Heifers 35-65 percent Choice, 1100-1400 lbs: 83.00-84.00 Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices): Slaughter cows mixed with south eastern states steady to 1.00 lower. Oklahoma recovered some of its losses and 2.00-3.00 higher while Northern states remained steady. USDA's Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 99.13 down 2.19 from last Friday's close.
