Phone: (602) 514-7210 Fax: (602) 514-7215 KO FV140 OKLAHOMA PECAN REPORT (via Phoenix). ---OKLAHOMA Deliveries by growers to buying points were light with many deliveries in small lots. Demand was moderate. Harvesting this week was moderate depending upon area. The weather over the growing season was variable depending upon area. Freezing temperatures of extended duration occurred throughout the state March 26 and 30 and again April 6-7. Damage was reported as varied by area and pecan variety. Rains and cold temperatures in some areas affected pollination of natives reducing tree load. Frequent rains fell during the growing period. As a result some areas have noted a higher than normal degree of pecan scab and pecan weevil damage. Production areas hardest hit by the spring 2007 and previous years freezes are expected to be limited in production. Buying interest by end users has been good for retail in-shell use and fairly light for use by commercial shellers as they generally fill needs from other production areas. Trading was fairly slow as many growers are concentrating on harvesting and storing harvested nuts opting to market at a later time. Purchases of large lots of Natives displaying good quality and meat yield were around $1.75 per point in shell. Prices paid to growers (beginning of business Monday, November 16, 2009 thru noon Thursday, November 19, 2009) at buyers delivery point or f.o.b. the orchard in-shell cents per pound. Natives: Lots of less than 1000 pounds 36-40% meat yield 45-50. FIRST REPORT OF SEASON. THE NEXT OKLAHOMA REPORT WILL BE ISSUED TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2009.
