JO_GR116 Portland, OR Thu Jul 2, 2009 USDA Market News Portland Weekly Grain Review Part 2 Pacific Northwest Add Weekly Grain Summary Cash Soft White Wheat - Pacific Northwest: Bids for US 1 Soft White Wheat, any protein and maximum 10.5 percent protein, for July Portland delivery ended the reporting week on Thursday, July 2, at 5.60 to 5.65, mostly 5.60, steady to six cents per per bushel lower than last Thursday's range of 5.60 to 5.71, mostly 5.70. White club wheat premiums for any protein and maximum 10.5 percent protein were zero to 1.00, mostly zero cents per bushel over bids for any protein and maximum 10.5 percent protein soft white wheat. This was steady compared to last Thursday's premiums. One year ago bids for any protein US 1 Soft White Wheat for first half July delivery were 8.05 and last half July 8.00 to 8.05, mostly 8.05. There were no White Club Wheat premiums for July delivery one year ago. Nearby bids for any protein US 1 Soft White wheat began the reporting week on Friday at mostly 5.70 and held at this level through Monday. Tuesday bids fell to mostly 5.56 and then made a comeback on Wednesday to mostly 5.60 and held at that level through today (Thursday) the reporting week's close. Moderately lower Chicago September wheat futures for the week pressured cash bids. There were no premiums bid by exporters for soft white wheat with a maximum of 10.5 percent protein. Confirmed new export sales of white wheat made during the week to Japan and Taiwan. Forward month bids for soft white wheat with any protein and maximum 10.5 percent protein were as follows: August new crop 5.65; September 5.70 to 5.76; October 5.75 to 5.84; and Nov 5.80 to 5.92. One year ago, forward month bids for any protein soft white wheat were as follows: August 1-10 delivery 8.00 to 8.10, August 11-20 delivery 8.05 to 8.10, August 21-31 delivery 8.10; September 8.15 to 8.30; October 8.23 to 8.35; and November 8.29 to 8.40. Bids for maximum 10.5 percent protein soft white wheat were not quoted one year ago. Outstanding U.S. white wheat export sales as of June 25, 2009 for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2009 and ending May 31, 2010, totaled 714.9 thousand MT compared to 808.9 thousand MT on June 18, 2009, and 917.9 thousand MT one year ago. Outstanding white wheat export sales for the 2009-2010 marketing year were to the following countries in 1,000 MT: Philippines 254.9, South Korea 150.8, Japan 77.7, Iran 60.0, Indonesia 56.0, Nigeria 22.7, Taiwan 18.5, Singapore 12.0, Canada 4.6, Vietnam 0.9, Hong Kong 0.8 and total unknown 56.0. Accumulated white wheat export shipments as of June 25, 2009, in 1,000 MT for the 2009-2010 marketing year, totaled 306.6 compared to 72.6 one year ago. Outstanding U.S. barley export sales as of June 25, 2009 for the marketing year beginning June 1, 2009 and ending May 31, 2010, in 1,000 MT, totaled 19.6 compared to 19.7 on June 18, 2009 and 84.1 one year ago. Outstanding barley export sales were to the following countries in 1,000 MT: Canada 11.8, Mexico 7.3, and Japan 0.5. Accumulated barley export shipments as of June 25, 2009 were 1.6 thousand MT compared to 5.4 one year ago. Coarse feeding grains: Bids for US 2 Barley delivered to the coast in unit trains or barges during July were not well tested as most exporters were not issuing bids for barley. Bids for US 2 Barley delivered to the inland feeding areas of Hermiston, Oregon and Yakima, Washington were also not well tested. Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn delivered to Portland in single rail cars were 11.00 to 13.50 per ton lower at 155.50 to 158.50 compared to last Thursday's bids of 169.25 to 169.50. Bids for US 2 Yellow Corn truck delivered to the inland feeding areas of Yakima, Washington, and Hermiston, Oregon, were 13.25 to 13.50 per ton lower, from 155.00 to 164.50, compared to 168.50 to 177.75 last Thursday. Lower Chicago July corn futures for the week weighed on bids. Bids for US 2 Heavy White Oats for July delivery were not well tested in extremely limited trading, but were indicated as 170.00, steady with last Thursday's noon bids.
