JC_LS795 Jefferson City, MO Fri Nov 20, 2009 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Missouri Weekly Weighted Average Feeder Cattle Report (11/20/09) Receipts: 20,811, week ago 36,757, year ago 41,572 Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers steady to 3.00 lower, Holsteins under 600 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 lower, over 600 lbs steady to 3.00 lower. Demand and supply moderate to light. Receipts this week curtailed by extremely wet and muddy conditions. Not many receiving lots in any shape to accept new purchases, only wanting to have calves that are sure enough weaned for several weeks, with shots and all the correct paper work in order. Others are waiting until next week when several of the auctions have advertised special wean-vac calf and yearling sales, where quality and condition will be outstanding. The next few days predicted to be dry, which will make movement of cattle considerably easier. The percentage of yearling cattle on offer light, as this time of year most of these cattle have already been shipped to either full or nearly full feedyards, explaining why some order buyers are out of the market. With the abundance of feed, both grains and forages, several reporters noting that the demand for replacement heifers better than in past years. Direct slaughter cattle trade steady to 1.00 lower this week with the cash sales at 81.00 to 84.00 and dressed sales unevenly steady to 2.00 lower at 130.00 to 132.00. Most of the live sales are scheduled for harvest the week of November 30.
