JC_LS763 Jefferson City, MO Wed Nov 25, 2009 MO Dept of Ag/USDA Market News West Plains- Ozarks Regional Stockyards Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 11/24/2009 Receipts: 1650 Last Week: 2190 Year Ago: 2600 Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 550 lbs 4.00-6.00 higher. Steers 550-700 lbs 2.00-4.00 higher, heifer-mates steady to 2.00 higher. Heavier weights only a limited test, steers steady to 2.00 up, heifers at best steady. Supply light, several producers holding until after Thanksgiving Holiday, others anticipating the Special Pre-Vac Sale Friday December 4th. Either way there were several nice groups of higher quality calves in town, but still several heavier soft/fleshy calves that’s not attracting many buyers. Demand moderate to good, trade turned fairly active by midday as buyers began to show they had a bigger stick than their first indications or have revealed in past couple of weeks. Fat cattle market continues under heavy pressure keeping Live futures in tack, although feeder contracts were able to close higher Tuesday as corn turned sharply lower. Supply consisted of 49 percent steers, 08 percent bulls and 43 percent heifers. Near 34 percent weighed over 600 lbs.
