JC_LS167 Jefferson City, MO Mon Dec 10, 2007 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News South Central Missouri Show-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale Mt Grove MO- Wright County Livestock Auction 12-08-07 Receipts: 154 (Bred Heifers) Coordinated by Missouri Sho-Me Select Replacement Heifers, Inc., In cooperation with University Extension, Commercial Agriculture Program, MO College of Veterinary Medicine, the Missouri Cattlemen?s Association and the MO Dept of Agriculture/USDA. All heifers in the sale met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight. They had also undergone a comprehensive health program and were guaranteed bred to easy calving bulls. The projected calving dates given for all lots and expected to start calving end of January thru April. The offering was screened for blemishes, muscle, frame and body condition score (BCS), and disposition by a screening committee, consisting of officials graders from the MO Dept of Agriculture/USDA, then sorted into lots according to calving dates and similar body types where permissible. The majority were natural bred with 15 percent A-I bred. Quality and condition was average to mostly good and consigned by 9 area producers and purchased by 20 different buyers with a high percentage of buyers being repeats from past sales. The 57 lots averaged 1065 lbs for an average price of 1133.00 dollars per head. Demand was unevenly moderate to good. Buyers somewhat sporadic, whereas often times quality, uniformity and BCS had little to do with final selling price. Exception, the 9 lots of A-I heifers offered seemed to ring a different bell and averaged 1341.00 per head. Supply primarily Angus and Angus/ Herford cross with some high quality Red Angus/Hereford cross and straight Herefords. Replacement Heifers: Large 1-2 (A-I bred) 1035-1200 lbs blk/blk baldie 1225.00-1450.00 per head, small lot 2 head 1162 lbs 1700.00. Medium to mostly Large 1-2 (Natural bred few mixed ) 850-1125 lbs 1000.00-1225.00 per head, a couple or three singles on the start 900.00 -1100.00; few Large 1-2 1150-1260 lbs 1100.00-1300.00.
