Feeder Cattle Auction for 07/01/09

   Compared with the previous auction from two weeks ago; feeder steers
2.00-4.00 higher.  Feeder heifers under 600 lbs steady to 2.00 higher
with yearling heifers over 600 lbs 2.00-4.00 higher.  Slaughter cows
2.00-3.00 higher.  Customer appreciation day at the Green City Market with
a free Prime-rib sandwich lunch offered to everyone kicking off the first
big yearling sale of the summer.  Buyers flocked in from miles around for a
free meal and to bid on some very good North Missouri cattle, many offered
in load lots.  The temperatures have moderated considerably from last weeks
extremely hot and humid weather, greatly diminishing the stress of handling
livestock.  Cattle futures were higher again on Wednesday after closing near
limit up on Monday, and corn prices have dropped sharply giving a boost to
the cash feeder market this week.  Demand good and supply moderate.  Cows
and bulls accounted for 2 percent of the run and feeders 98 percent.  In the
feeder supply, steers made up approximately 52 percent of the run and
heifers 48 percent.  Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 70 percent.
