JC_LS154 Jefferson City, MO Mon Feb 8, 2010 Mo Dept of Ag/USDA Market News Service West Plains- Ozarks Regional Stockyard Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 02/05/2010 Special Value-Added/Pre-Vac Feeder Cattle Sale Receipts: 5024 Last Month: 8026 Last Year: 5500 Compared to the previous Pre-Vac Sale the first of January, steers 450-750 lbs sold 2.00-5.00 higher, spots 5.00-6.00 higher on 600-650 lbs, few under 450 lbs steady, several loads over 750 lbs firm to mostly 2.00 higher. Heifers 2.00 to mostly 3.00 higher, although 5-6 weight heifers were 3.00-6.00 higher. Supply moderate, with several loads of 550-750 weight high quality, home raised mainly blk hides on tap. Demand good, in spite of several buyers being out of the market due to weather concerns, but most were sidelined because of severe mud conditions in North and Western regions. However, buyers that were able to challenge adversities were active and appeared awfully stout when faced with the right kind of merchandise. Locally, mud also an issue, as most farm trucks around the auction market appear similar in color, even to a point where mentally marking a parking vicinity a plus. Supply consisted of 59 percent steers and 41 percent heifers. Near 66 percent weighed over 600 lbs.
