The rally carried over into the middle of this week and with the market rally in the CME cattle futures no doubt created some short lived optimism in the feedlot trade as cash responded to the futures on Wednesday with fed cattle trading in the Southern Plains at 120.00, a 1.00 higher than last week’s average. On Thursday CME cattle futures retreated to the downside in some cases with triple-digit losses playing back into the packer’s hands as cash trade in Nebraska was steady to 1.00 higher at 119.00-120.00 and dressed sales steady at 190.00. Cut- out values continue to drift lower, but as we move into March the cut-out should gain in value.
