Feeder Cattle Auction for 07/07/09

   Compared with the auction from two weeks ago; yearling steers and
heifers steady to 2.00 higher, and calf prices traded with a sharply
higher undertone compared with the lightly tested market that took place
previously in the middle of the summer’s first heat wave.  Slaughter cows
steady.  A good crowd was on hand for the annual customer appreciation
day at the market which featured a free roast beef sandwich and meal
for all in attendance.  Something new for the Unionville Livestock Market
was the sale of 9 pot loads of yearlings sold by video.  594 total head,
(not included in above receipts), were marketed, with 5 loads of black and
black white face steers for current delivery weighing 775-825 lbs bringing
from 103.85-105.85; and 2 loads of mixed steers, 800 lbs, selling for
99.75-100.75.  2 loads of heifers for September delivery weighing 685 lbs
sold for 102.25.  All cattle will be pencil shrunk 2 percent when weighed
and be subject to a 4 cent slide per pound over sale weight.  Early
impressions from participants are that the video sale went very well.
Demand good for all classes and supply moderate.  Cows and bulls accounted
for 12 percent of the run and feeders 88 percent.  In the feeder supply,
steers and bulls made up approximately 58 percent of the run; heifers
42 percent; steers and heifers over 600 lbs totaled around 72 percent.
