GL_LS165 Greeley, CO Fri May 24, 2013 USDA-CO Dept of Ag Market News Colorado Direct Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 5/24/2013 Receipts: 4359 Last Week: 2677 Year Ago: 3920 Compared to last week: Feeder steers were mostly steady where comparable sales were noted. Not enough comparable sales on heifers for an adequate market trend. Severe thunderstorms brought much needed moisture to the state last week, with the majority of the precipitation concentrated in the east. Snowpack levels fell by at least 2 percent in all regions, with the exception of the South Platte area were snowpack levels increased by 10 percent to 129 percent of average. As a result, hay crops in the Northeast portions of the state are quickly approaching first cutting, as most producers are expected to begin in the next 7 to 10 days. The supply consisted of 79 percent steers. In the feeder cattle supply 100 percent weighed over 600 lbs. Unless otherwise stated prices are FOB with a 2-3 percent shrink or equivalent and with a 5-10 cent slide on calves and 3-6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight.
