BL_LS754 Billings, MT Mon Feb 06, 2012 USDA Market News Montana Weekly Cattle Auction Summary Receipts: 6,022 Last Week: 2,974 Year Ago: 5,434 Compared to last week: Stocker steers under 500 lbs sold steady to 2.00 higher; Feeder and stocker steers over 500 lbs sold 2.00 to 8.00 higher. Feeder and stocker heifers sold mostly 4.00 to 8.00 higher with replacement type heifers trending sharply higher. Feeding cows sold steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold mixed with Lean cows trending 2.00 to 4.00 higher; Boner cows sold mostly steady; Breakers cows sold steady to 3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold steady to 2.00 higher. Demand good to very good for all weights of feeder and stocker cattle plus feeding cows; demand moderate to good for slaughter cattle with moderate to excess flesh cattle at the lower end of the demand spectrum. Approximately, 64 percent feeder cattle; 6 percent feeding cows; 22 percent slaughter cows; 2 percent slaughter bulls with the balance bred cows and misc. cattle. In the feeder supply, steers/bulls made up 53 percent of the run; heifers 47 percent; steers and heifers over 600 lbs totaled 40 percent. All bred stock sold by the head and pairs sold per pair, unless otherwise stated. All bred cows and heifers represented to calve before May 15th, unless otherwise stated.
