AM_LS165 Amarillo, TX Fri Jul 03, 2009 USDA-TX Dept of Ag Market News Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for Friday - 7/03/09 Confirmed: 50,200 Last Week: 16,400 Last Year: 12,400 Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers traded 1.00-4.00 higher precipitating a large movement, most of which were either trades for current delivery or short term contracts thru August. Increasing prices on the CME this week and declining corn prices have helped increase feeder cattle prices and precipitated this large movement particularly out of areas like the Osage. Prices started the week out 1.00 higher but quickly escalated to 3.00-4.00 higher midweek causing large spreads in the price ranges. Much of the volume this week was on a delivered basis from surrounding states, particularly Oklahoma. Pasture conditions continue to improve from recent rains in the Panhandle and other areas of West Texas and New Mexico which should postpone any large movement from these areas until later this summer. Approximately 94 percent of this week's cattle weighed over 600 lbs. Approximately 81 percent of this week's receipts were steers and 19 percent heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3 percent shrink or equivalent and 5-10 cent slide on calves and 4-6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Delivered prices include freight, commissions and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.
