AM_LS165 Amarillo, TX Fri May 09, 2008 USDA-TX Dept of Ag Market News Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary Confirmed: 22,300 Last Week: 14,200 Last Year: 25,100 Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers steady to 1.00 higher. Much of the trade was steady to firm, however the Medium and Large 1-2 cattle showed the most increase. Excellent condition in the lighter muscled cattle has also helped them advance in price. The volume of true yearlings on offer has become more scarce each and every week lately, with more cattle being shipped in from outside the area (from Southern Texas and Southeastern States). A fact that is supported by the increasing number of lighter muscled cattle in the report the last few weeks. Volume continues to run behind last year due to the decreased number of wheat pasture cattle available. Several auctions in the area and surrounding states have also been experiencing increased runs as a result of cattle shipped in from further South as well as the South East. Approximately 97 percent of this week's cattle weighed over 600 lbs. Approximately 61 percent of this week's receipts were steers and 39 percent heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3 percent shrink or equivalent and 5-10 cent slide on calves and 4-6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Delivered prices include freight, commissions and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.
