Feeder Cattle Auction Narrative Report for 5/14/2008 Actual Receipts: 6370 Last Week: 5848 Last Year: 7286 Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers steady to 3.00 higher, except steers over 900 lbs and heifers over 800 lbs 2.00-4.00 higher. Demand again extremely good for feeder cattle. Steer calves 4.00-8.00 higher. Heifer calves 3.00-6.00 higher. Demand good for calves but many thin long weaned calves included. Corn futures continue the lower trend for the week with the July contract back under the 6.00 mark. Several heavy weight feeders available off winter graze out pastures. Supply included 92 percent over 600 lbs and 28 percent heifers. Slaughter cows firm to 4.00 higher. Slaughter bulls 2.00 higher. Packer demand very good with the Memorial Holiday just around the corner. Total of 320 cows and bulls sold with 74 percent going to packers.
