Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 07/01/2008

Receipts:  2266    Last Week:  4027    Last Year: No-Sale (Holiday)
 
   Compared to last week, steer calves sold steady to mostly 2.00 lower,
steer yearlings firm to mostly 2.00 higher.  Heifer calves sold 3.00-5.00
lower, yearling heifers steady to 2.00 higher.  Supply light, quality not
as attractive as the previous sale.  Buyers cautiously pulled their
horns-in this week on calves, especially those of lesser quality, fleshy,
conditions, un-weaned and un-vaccinated, but most obvious in the heifer
calf trade.  Lower corn futures has given cattle feeders a breath of air
past couple of days, but as was learned last week, corn futures can turn
skyward in a heartbeat.  Speakin’ of skyward, hope your 4th is safe and
paths of your bottle rockets true.  Tuesday’s supply consisted of 67
percent steers and 33 percent heifers.  Near 63 percent weighed over 600
lbs.
