JC_LS150 Jefferson City, MO Wed Jul 02, 2008 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Cuba- Interstate Regional Stockyards Feeder Cattle Auction for 07/01/2008 Receipts: 525 Last Week: 1089 Year Ago: no sale Compared to last week feeders sold steady. This week’s offering was very light and as nearly every farmer in the area was either making hay or cutting fescue seed. The feeder offerings made up of 44 percent steers, 1 percent Holstein steers, 38 percent heifers, and 17 percent feeder bulls. Near 38 percent of the feeder offerings were over 600 lbs. Feeder demand was moderate. Slaughter Cows and Bulls made up near 20 percent of the total offerings and sold steady to 1.00 higher. The past week saw the release of several USDA reports. Basically reports only confirmed what most already had figured out. Corn prices have lost 35 cents the first two days of this week. Although prices remain over 7 bucks falling corn prices are typically a good thing for the cattle man. Also in news this week, 49 congressmen and women have realized the strain that using corn for fuel is causing and have appealed to the EPA to re-evaluate the ethanol mandate, time will only tell if anything becomes of this.
