Cattle Auction Report for 06/26/2008

Receipts:  422    Last Week:  703    Year Ago:  No Sale

   A light run of feeder steers and heifers offered little comparison in 
any weight or class to last week but cattle sold with a lower undertone. 
Slaughter cows 1.00-3.00 higher, slaughter bulls 3.00-4.00 higher. The 
feeder cattle available this week were offered in single lots and very 
small packages with few front end cattle available with little to entice 
the light crowd of buyers on hand. CBOT Corn contracts soared again 
by the close of business Thursday with all months now topping $7.50/bu. A 
pencil and paper isn’t needed to do the math on recent purchases with 
feed costs like that. A video auction was held in conjunction with the 
regular feeder cattle sale with 11 loads of 870 lb steers (638 total hd) 
on offer bringing 109.85.  Cattle will be gathered, penned for 
approximately 2 weeks before being loaded and hauled 6 miles and weighed 
with a 03 percent shrink. Supply and demand light. Cows and bulls 
accounted for 21 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply 
included 40 percent steers and bulls and 60 percent heifers; 23 percent 
of all feeders weighed over 600 lbs.
