JC_LS132 Jefferson City, MO Wed Jun 25, 2008 MO Dept of Ag/USDA Market News Boonville-Farmers Livestock Auction Cattle Auction Report for 06/24/2008 Receipts: 1031 Last Week: 644 Year Ago: 514 Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 2.00 to 4.00 higher with instances of 5.00 higher on 600 lb steers and 500 lb heifers. Slaughter cows 2.00-3.00 higher. Several more spectators taking in the local auction than in recent weeks as morning rains drove farmers out of their fields for another day. As one producer commented, it’s a rare occurrence to be wearing mud boots regularly at the end of June but that’s the result of what Mother Nature has given us so far this season. This week’s feeder supply included several large consignments of true yearlings and demand was best for those offerings. With corn well over 7.00/bu, heavy weight cattle have even more appeal than normal when buyers are considering how many more days on feed the lighter counterparts could spend. Supply and demand moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 13 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 47 percent steers and bulls and 53 percent heifers; 61 percent of all feeders weighed over 600 lbs. ***Cattlemen’s Note: Farmers Livestock Auction will be closed Tuesday, July 1st and Tuesday, July 8th.
