Southeast Feeder Cattle Review-Week Ending January 17, 2003.

At selected markets in the southeast states this past week receipts of
feeder cattle and calves were estimated at 55,200 head, compared to
60,300 head last week and 62,348 a year ago.

Feeder cattle prices mostly steady to lower in the Southeast area for the week 
ending Jan. 17, 2003.  Lower temperatures after midweek curtailed receipts which
led to thinly tested markets.  Markets open higher early but by midweek prices
started to decline.  Compared to last week feeders steady to 3.00 lower full
decline on weights over 600 lbs.

600-700 lbs 70.00-81.00; 700-800 lbs 65.00-78.00.

Feeder Heifers: Medium & Large 1-2, 200-250 lbs 105.00-125.00; 250-300 lbs
100.00-107.00; 300-350 lbs 90.00-102.00; 350-400 lbs 85.00-95.00;
400-450 lbs 83.00-93.00; 450-500 lbs 80.00-90.00; 500-550 lbs 75.00-85.00;
550-600 lbs 70.00-82.00; 600-700 lbs 66.00-76.00.

Replacement and/or Feeder Cows: Medium and Large 1-2 cows 4-7 years
bred 7-8 months 950-1300 lbs 48.00-57.00 and 500.00-700.00 per head.
