AM_LS750 Amarillo, TX Tue May 13, 2008 USDA-TX Dept of Ag Market News Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, TX Feeder Cattle Weighted Average for 05/13/08 Cattle and Calves: 681 Week Ago: 831 Year Ago: 585 Compared to last week: Feeder Steers and Heifers over 600 lbs 2.00-4.00 higher and under 600 lbs mostly steady with a higher undertone noted on a light test of calves. Several small packages of new crop calves in the offering. Most stocker/grazing operations remain on hold with limited buying taking place until we get significant rain in the area. Last week’s rain was enough to just barely start to give the grass a green tint in most areas. Slaughter cows and bulls generally 2.00-4.00 higher with high yielding individuals showing a much greater increase. Bulk of the supply Medium and Large 1-2 400-775 lbs feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand moderate to good, with yearlings instances very good. Slaughter cows made up 6 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 3 percent, replacement cows 9 percent and feeders 82 percent. The feeder supply included 49 percent steers and 51 percent heifers. Near 70 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
