Amarillo Livestock Auction - Tuesday - 05/13/08

Cattle and Calves: 681                                   

   Compared to last week: Feeder Steers and Heifers over 600 lbs 2.00-4.00 
higher and under 600 lbs mostly steady with a higher undertone noted on a light 
test of calves.  Several small packages of new crop calves in the offering.  
Most stocker/grazing operations remain on hold with limited buying taking place 
until we get significant rain in the area.  Last week's rain was enough to just 
barely start to give the grass a green tint in many areas.  Slaughter cows and 
bulls generally 2.00-4.00 higher with high yielding individuals showing a much 
greater increase.  Bulk of the supply Medium and Large 1-2 400-775 lbs feeder 
steers and heifers.  Trade and demand moderate to good, with yearlings instances 
very good.  Slaughter cows made up 6 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 3 
percent, replacement cows 9 percent and feeders 82 percent.  The feeder supply 
included 49 percent steers and 51 percent heifers.  Near 70 percent of the run 
weighed over 600 lbs. 

   Steers: Medium and Large 1: few 300-330 lbs 120.00-135.00; few 427-461 lbs 
119.00-123.00; 600-675 lbs 107.00-112.00, load 653 lbs fleshy 102.00; few 825-
835 lbs 100.00-104.00; 975-1025 lbs 89.00-90.00.    
   Medium and Large 1-2: pkg 230 lbs 151.00; pkg 331 lbs 120.00; few 400-475 lbs 
114.00-118.00; few 500-575 lbs 104.00-114.00.     
   Medium and Large 2-3: pkg 439 lbs 111.00; pkg 607 lbs 94.00; few 725-732 lbs

   Feeder Bulls: Medium and Large 1-2: few 470-475 lbs 107.00; 500-600 lbs

   Heifers: Medium and Large 1: few 400-425 lbs 103.00-105.00; few 525-597 lbs 
101.00-104.00; few 610-615 lbs 100.00; 700-800 lbs 99.50-101.50, pkg fleshy 780 
lbs 92.00.
   Medium and Large 1-2: pkg 385 lbs new crop 104.00, thin weaned 301 lbs
