From: roccoc@hutchcc.edu Sent: Wednesday, August 09, 2006 5:33 PM To: MarketingClaim Subject: Proposed Grassfed Rules Docket #LS-05-09 I believe that the following changes to the proposed Grassfed Rules Docket #LS-05-09 should be made: 1) Antibiotics must only be allowed at curative levels and not fed at "preventative" levels. They should not be introduced into the diet through the daily drinking water supply. 2) Confinement should be limited to 30 days only, unless an emergency situation arises that poses a threat to the animals' health or well being (such as fire, flood, blizzard, etc.). 3) Mature grain silages (including corn silage) should not be allowed as a feed. 4) Forages, stockpiled or baled, should not include any unharvested grains that are still attached to the plant. 5) The animals should have daily acess to pasture unless there are unusal circumstances (drought, fire, etc.). 6) Use of hormones must be banned if the animals are to be rasied, marketed, and labeled as grassfed. 7) Consumer perception of grassfed is that the animals are not confined, as in a feedlot, and are allowed to roam free on pastures, while consuming grass, hay and other forages.
