INSTRUCTIONS FOR PDP ALDICARB IN POTATOES SPECIAL SURVEY DATA DOWNLOAD

Description: Special survey for acute dietary risk assessment conducted 
             from Dec 1996 to Dec 1997. Aldicarb and its metabolites were
             analyzed in potato sample composites and then single-serving
             analyses were performed on those samples containing the 
             highest total combined aldicarb residue in that analytical set.

** Less than 1 MB (200KB) of free disk storage space is needed to hold the
   de-compressed Aldicarb in Potatoes Special Survey data.

Instructions:
1) Click on the Aldicarb in Potatoes Special Survey Data ZIP file link and save 
   the ALDIDATA.ZIP file to your hard drive.
2) In Windows or DOS, use a de-compression utility on the ALDIDATA.ZIP file
   to extract 7 files. There will be 6 text files and 1 executable file
   (described below).
3) Print the Data Dictionary file (DATADIAL.TXT) to see file structures.
4) Create four tables that match the provided file structures using your
   own database software. Import the 4 ASCII text (.asc) files.
5) The reference lists for PDP codes stored in these special survey files
   are the same as those for the full PDP 1997 database, so if you have 
   already downloaded those (15 .txt) files, there is no need to extract
   them again by launching the 97REFS.EXE executable file.
6) If you have not downloaded the 15 .txt reference files as part of the
   1997 database download, you can extract them by launching the 97REFS.EXE
   executable file. Print the 15 PDP code reference (.txt) files.  You may 
   want to create database tables for these, remove the headings from the
   files, and import the codes/descriptions into look-up tables that can be
   linked to your data.

File descriptions:
  ALDISAMP.ASC  -  ASCII,fixed-length data file which holds 342 Sample
                    Information records for analyzed Potato samples.
  ALDIRECO.ASC  -  ASCII,fixed-length data file which holds 1,026
                    Analytical Results records for the Composite Potato
                    samples.
  ALDIRESS.ASC  -  ASCII,fixed-length data file which holds 450
                    Analytical Results records for the Single-Serving
                    Potato samples.
  ALDIPEST.ASC  -  ASCII,fixed-length data file which holds 3 Pesticide
                    Codes/Names for relational reference (join) with the
                    Analytical Results tables (link on Pest_Code).
  DATADIAL.TXT  -  Data Dictionary that provides the file structures for
                    the Sample Info data file (aldisamp.asc), the Composite 
                    Analytical Results file (aldireco.asc), and the 
                    Single-Serving Analytical Results file (aldiress.asc).
                    This is a text file that can be viewed/printed with any
                    text editor.
  README.TXT  -    Text file containing these same instructions.
  97REFS.EXE  -    Self-extracting executable which de-compresses to the
                    15 PDP reference code/description files described below.
