LS SCEP Training Information
Students are required to complete all training prior to graduation. There are two available training options:

  • 2 13-week training periods, which are completed non-consecutively and can be shortened to no less than 10 weeks each, or
  • 1 16-week training period, which is completed consecutively and may be lengthened.

Additional training options are available on an individual basis. Contact the SCEP coordinator for more information.

During the first training period, students will receive formal training in methods, procedures, standards, instructions, and specifications. Meat grading student trainees are tested on presented material and receive on-the-job training in meat packing plants. Market news reporter student trainees receive training at feedlots, livestock sales, and market news offices, and are tested periodically.

During the second training period, students receive formal refresher training and extensive on-the-job training.
