- Order Authority and Regulations: Marketing order authorizes volume regulations through the use of reserve pools and a voluntary producer diversion program. These programs are not currently being used. The order also authorizes minimum grade and size regulations in the form of incoming and outgoing quality requirements on prunes received and disposed of by handlers. Grade, size, and container pack requirements are currently suspended and not in effect.
- Research and Promotion: The order also authorizes market research and development programs, but none of these programs are currently in effect.
- The order was promulgated in 1949 and was last amended under formal rulemaking on December 18, 1981.
- 8e Requirements: These requirements specify that imported commodities must meet the same or comparable minimum grade, size, quality, and maturity requirements, as those specified under the marketing order.
Committee Structure: The Prune Marketing Committee consists of 22 members and alternates. Membership includes 14 producers, 7 handlers, and 1 public member. Two-year terms of office begin June 1. Independent handler nominees are submitted by the following groups: (1) two largest independent handlers; (2) next three largest independent handlers; (3) all other independent handlers. The cooperative submits its list of nominees. The public member is selected by all other members.
