Jay Feldman
Beyond Pesticides | Washington, DC
Environmentalist | January, 2010 January, 2015

Jay Feldman, executive director and co-founder of the national environmental and public health group Beyond Pesticides, has a 30-year history of working with communities nationwide on toxics and organic policies, and agricultural and land management practices that maintain ecological balance, biodiversity, and avoid reliance on toxic chemicals. Jay dedicated himself to finding solutions to pesticide problems after working with farmworkers and small farmers, who suffered adverse health effects and property damage associated with pesticide use, through an EPA grant in 1978 to the national organization Rural America. Since that time, he has helped to build Beyond Pesticides' capacity to bridge consumer and farmer interests, assist local groups, and influence national pesticide and organic policy.

With a board of directors and staff that spans the scientific, medical, environmental, consumer, and agricultural communities, he has tracked specific chemical effects, regulatory actions, and pesticide and organic law. Jay has served on EPA advisory panels, spoken to groups across the country and worldwide, and contributed to the development of federal policy advancing chemical restrictions, and green technologies.

Jay has a Masters in urban and regional planning with a focus on health policy from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (1977), and a B.A. in political science from Grinnell College (IA).
