The Livestock and Seed Program provides services to the industry and interested parties that include the grading and certification of meat products; and the verification of companies' abilities to provide quality products that meet the Livestock and Seed Program purchase specifications. These purchase specifications include products donated to school lunch and food assistance programs. Federal meat grading, certification, and auditing services play a significant role in the trading and marketing of meats and meat products. The impartial application of standards, specifications and purchase agreements by the Meat Grading and Certification (MGC) Branch graders and the Audit, Review, and Compliance (ARC) Branch auditors assures buyers and sellers of an equitable basis for trading. For these services to be meaningful and useful, they must be accurately and uniformly applied. On-going independent conformity assessment audits of these services are conducted to determine if the application of the standards, specifications, and purchase agreement is within acceptable limits. In this connection, the Review section of the ARC Branch independently monitors the services and evaluates the effectiveness of the programs administered by the MGC and ARC Branches along with other involved Branches within the Livestock and Seed Program
